JB: at the risk of immodesty, I'd invite you to look at my last blog entry. I took three kids to a TKD tournament today. Heh.

Heh - love the final line. Love absurdity in general.

And modern families are all the rage. My 3 year took a photo of himself with my iPad, snagged a screenshot of his Play School scene and iMessaged them to my wife. I begged him to teach me how to take screen grabs on the iPad. He wouldn't tell me till I gave him a cup of milk. My wife saw how easily I'd been played and asked why I didn't just google it. Damn it.

Haha, Murph. You cynic. I jest. I know you're American. You'll never be rid of the guns in the US. Hell, the NRA practically runs the country.

Funny clip. Laughed at the bird and the suicidal guy.

Strange how popular the NRA is. Almost like they represent a significant chunk of the population's views or something.

The NRA, if memory serves, as 4 million paid members. In American politics, that is significant on its own. While I sometimes wonder what is going on with their executive decisions, I do not delude myself with notions that they are, "evil," and merely pawns of the gun industry. They are the voice of a significant portion of the population who do believe (believe being the term here) that they need the capability to defend themselves.

There was a debate a few months back on my FB between a lawyer friend of mine and some of the Ozians who drop by. The debate clarified one thing I had suspected, which is you folks actually believe your cops will be there to protect you from any problems. You have a deep seated belief in that fact.

Depending on which part of the country you go to here in the States, that belief simply does not exist. I know I don't have much faith in many of the cops I encounter during my daily travels, at least not at an organizational/cultural level.

And as I get older, I could punch them, but I'd rather plug them and be done with it.

Respects,

Murph

Murph, I have lived in Australia for many years but I grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa (in the apartheid era). Even in a middle-class white family, "you folks actually believe your cops will be there to protect you from any problems" didn't apply. Despite that, my parents never owned a gun and if asked, they would probably characterise the NRA as gun nuts (with the emphasis on 'nut').

I'd call you nuts for not taking steps to protect yourself.

That said, in all seriousness, I do not presently own a firearm.
