A Message From Q

Posted March 17, 2013 by DNABeast

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the command centre. Follow me and don't touch anything.

Now, MI5 has insisted that all agents with the Burger prefix have access to the new system.

This gun can write on any standard piece of paper

Pay attention, these details are important and may save you valuable time and energy in the field.

Each page has eight posts. Scroll down and the menu will give you feedback based on where you are in the page, or click on the menu item to jump down the page. Click on the title of any post to reload the page with this as the number one post. This is a great way to share stories - or you can simply click the share button at the bottom of each post. The slider will collect the most important posts that you submit and the busiest ones will be marked as such in the navigation.

You have a new comment system. Click on the [read comment] button to reveal them all. It's two layers deep so you can either respond directly to the post or you can respond to any comment made. Simply add your email and post your comments.

If you choose to, you may register your assigned email address. This means that you don't need to enter your address each time and you can associate a Twitter account, a Facebook account and a website to each comment you make. It also means Agent "Scurvy Dog" Havock can't post under your username.

Note your user account. You'll see a list of the site categories. Deactivate any that you prefer to ignore in your feed. You can still navigate straight to the category in question using the menu option, but your default view will skip them.

Last but not least, this site has been tested in Chrome, Firefox and various versions of IE as well as certain IOS devices. If you or any of your fellow operatives notice anything odd, file a report with dan@civicnet.com.au. Make sure to include the operating system and browser that you're using.

Enjoy your new surroundings, chaps.

I am loathe to experiment with HTML tags, which appear doomed to fail in the comments box. But, I am going to miss strikethrough. There is a certain jolly joshery that is enabled with the strikethrough. Even if I never use it, it is nice to have that comic jiggery-pokery available.

The golden rule for web-based applications is: don't ever trust anything you receive from the interwebs, and don't ever assume that when you make an engine for processing forms that your forms are the onnly thing that can talk to it. Sounds like some of the love coming out of there had trust in it too...

Once you get the recent comments links fixed, I would prefer the recent comment listing of 5 to be increased. Particularly, with the liveliness of the blog and the variety of blog topics and tracking down comments on comments. The recent comment listing is how I keep track of new comments. To be a commenter, is to enjoy reading other's comments, and that all depends on being easily able to follow the conversations.

w from brisbane mutters...

Posted March 17, 2013

What an excellent assertion from w from brisbane! Hey, I don't mind this comment on comment feature. Particularly, as someone could reply to your comment with a bon mot, an appropriate slapdown or some helpful advice and you would never realise it. That does take away somewhat the point of commenting. That is, if you think the comment threads add value to your blog.

Refering to w from brisbane's excellent response to w from brisbane's excellent comment. I note that the response does not seem to show up on the recent comment list, which somewhat componds the issue.

I'm speaking as a commenter which means I really enjoy the other voices and the interaction. So being able to keep track is what keeps me engaged.

This is all very curious. It was Safari on Lion, not exactly something obscure or weird. Been there with compatibility, I guess, back in the IE6 days. Sadly the more Web 2.0 and ajaxy you go, the more it is a concern, but one can't not do that these days I suppose.

Paul_Nicholas_Boylan asserts...

Posted March 18, 2013

"Did she, indeed, put on his knowledge with his power?"

Of course not, no more than Henry VIII learned the contents of books by sleeping with his head pillowed on them. Yeats was an exceptional poet, but he believed in some fairly goofy things. Leda didn't get anything except fucked by a big bird.

There is some sort of issue with fonts in Chrome. I'm in Chrome Version 25.0.1364.172 on Windows 8. I see odd proportions and missing pixels, with 100% magnification. Going to 110% seems to fix a few things, but going to 125% leaves aliasing on the headers.

damian has opinions thus...

Works very nicely in firefox on android, btw. 2 issues : the comment box is cut off with a phone screen from the right and in portrait mode the right hand menu overlaps the text of the articles.

So far seems to work better in chrome on android.

Comment box still behaves a little oddly when entering text past the right edge... could maybe make the size depend on screen size?
