If you gotta beat 'em to keep 'em them best let 'em go.
Never understood it myself. I can understand wanting to clobber someone, anyone. What I don't understand is why you'd do it if you absolutely didn't have to.

Just do what I do. Get a punching bag and glue a picture of Piers Boltbrechtsen on it. All of your clobbering needs catered for, and nobody gets hurt.
Of course it's the commie-femo-nazi ABC which has shown his show in the past.

Commie? That's a bit high-brow isn't it? I think the technical term is 'pinko'.

For a start, there seem to be an awful lot of men out there whose personal definition of "I absolutely had to" encompasses situations like "I've had a crap day and the boss yelled at me in front of everyone and I spilled coffee on myself this afternoon and the guy in the newsagent was rude to me and I badly need to feel powerful and dominant again and a nice short cut to that feeling is to see someone else cowering under my fists". Just for example.

Hmm, in my mind, physical violence is for deterrence and defense if the former fails. A little menace to get compliance out of someone isn't out of line in my book but you don't use that on the woman you love.
And it isn't that I don't have the crap days or experience anger. Oh no, anger and I are old companions, we have tea together on a daily basis in fact. Yet I don't go upstairs after a frustrating day and throw the Woman I Love against the wall to pound the crap out of her nor do I torture my mother simply because I'm having a bad day.
There is enough pain and suffering in the world. No need to bring it into one's relationships with loved ones.
I should add that from what I've read, I'm a prime candidate for being a wife beater, having had the crap kicked out of me by the child beating, adulterous son of a bitch that was my sperm donor. Of course, I'm also supposed to be smoking two packs a day since I come from a home of smokers.
Instead of "Lions, Tigers & bears, Oh No" Dorothy should have said "Men who look just like my dad & brothers, oh no."
One of my oldest mates has worked for 20 years in a domestic & sexual abuse suport organisation. Jeebus, what a dysfunction foundry. You simply wouldn't believe some of the war stories she trots out, if they weren't from the horses mouth, so to speak. I simply cannot imagine the headspace of a man who'd use violence against a woman he supposedly loves.
She recently posted a gant chart of Causes of Rape, of the proposed causes; Slutty clothes, bad luck, drinking, being in the wrong place at the wrong time & rapists, it ascribed 100% of blame to rapists.
Did her diatribe about fiction mean ALL fiction, or just the pretentious wankery passing itself off as "worthy" literature? Because I will defend escapist fast paced 'splodey fiction to the bitter end.

I think I stand with Murph on this. If violence is necessary to 'maintain' the relationship, then the relationship is wrong.

Commendable, and pretty much the same page I'm on. The point is that a lot of people aren't on that page.

When women say, "splodey fic," do they mean something different than what we men mean when we say, "splodey fic?"
Just wondering.
